The first Gunslinger Hunter Challenge, will be held
at Motunau, North Canterbury, 24 September 2011.
|
|
|
Overview - Updated 15 August 2011
Over the last few years there have been a number of
requests to introduce stages suitable for hunting - at shorter ranges,
and suitable for light barrels.
So, in response the first Gunslinger Hunter Challenge is
scheduled for Saturday 24 September. The location is a farm near
Motunau, in North Canterbury.
The will be six shooting stages and ranges will vary from about 50m out
to a maximum of 600m. There are two classes of competitors:
bolt-action or semi-automatic.
Match fee is $60
per competitor, or spectator. The match now has a maximum of 24
competitors, and the round count has been increased to 40 (excluding practice).
The
course will mostly be shot on a firing line. Where the stage
involves
a target board multiple competitors will be shooting at the same
time.
Where the stage involves metal targets only one shooter will be active
at a time rotating along the firing line for the next shot or shots.
Arrive sighted-in. There is some time for
practice, but no facilities will be set-up for sighting-in.
Competitors should also familiarise themselves with the
Gunslinger PLRS Standard Operating Procedures.
The match is operated by Gunslinger PLRS Limited.
Shane Cossar will be Match Director and Chief Range Officer.
Enquiries about competing or attending as a spectator should be made to
shane_cossar@hotmail.com
Do not simply turn up at the site. If you haven't applied to
attend you will be turned away.

www.metaltargets.com
|
|
Kelly's Heroes
One firing line, with two target boards. Two shooting serials.
Cowboy
- Serial One
Closest target board (~50m) with playing cards attached randomly.
Cards have a 1” black square on them.
Once on the firing line the competitor is handed a playing card.
The shooter then has to locate and shoot that card.
One point per hit on card, three points per hit on black square.
Score will not be recorded until later.
Two rounds.
Hint: Coldbore.
Crapgame
- Serial Two
Furthest target board (~100m) with 3” Shoot-N-C targets, at
approximately 200m.
Three rounds.
Points per roundel. 10, 9, 8.
Three rounds.
Hint: Accuracy and precision. |

|
|
Thunderbolt and Lightfoot
One firing line, with five metal targets. Two shooting serials. Each serial is shot twice - second time in the reverse order.
Thunderbolt
- Serial One
Three metal targets on poles (8” rounds, ~100 to 150m).
Any non-prone position. Fire from left to right.
One point for first hit, three points for second hit, five points for
third hit.
Three rounds.
Hint: Rapid fire.
Lightfoot
- Serial Two
Two metal targets on poles (12” squares, one at ~100m to
~200m).
First shot standing at closest target, second shot kneeling at furthest
target.
One point hit on closest target (standing), five points hit on furthest
(kneeling).
Three rounds.
Hint: Snapshot. |

|
|
Blood Work
One firing line, with five groundhog targets on poles (at ~150m to ~350m).
Start with closest target, and one shot per target moving to furthest.
One point for hit on closest target, two points second, three points
third, four points fourth, and five points furthest.
A miss results in losing the points earned on this stage. Shooter
can choose not to shoot to keep points earned.
Five rounds.
Hint: Know Your Limits. |

|
|
The Rookie
One firing line with two targets – one 28” high auto reset popper (8”
round), and one 42”high auto reset popper (12”
round) (~350m, 450m).
Competitor nominates target per shot.
One point per hit on the largest / closest target, and two points per hit on the
smallest / furthest target.
Five rounds.
Hint: Know Your Limits. The safest option is usually to
start on the largest target, confirm your dope and then switch to the
smaller target to increase your points. Remember to advise the RO
what target you are going to shoot! Normally these are shot at much longer distances - so hits will only be scored when the target falls backward (it resets automatically). |

|
|
Sudden Impact
One firing line with one Coyote with swing-out vitals target (~450m).
A hit on the body will score one point, and
a hit on the vitals (knocking the flag up) will score two points.
Five rounds.
Hint: Only multiple hits on the vitals will win this one.
With a
stable firing position, natural point of aim, good trigger control, and
consistent follow-thru there’s no reason why you can’t get five vitals
hits
here.
|

|
|
The Gauntlet
Three firing points with one full sized Deer target (approximately 42"
wide and 40" high body) with swing out vitals (~450m and ~ 600m).
Using a total of five rounds, starting with the furthest firing line,
fire two rounds, then move to from the closest firing points, and one round
from the closest firing point. .
1 point per hit on body, 2 points per hit on lung swing-out vitals and 5 points per hit on heart
vitals (knocking the flags up).
Hint: Centre-of-mass hits won’t win this one - you
must aim at the vitals. By the time you’re on the last firing
point your windage and elevation should be sorted, then concentrate on
follow-thru to repeat hits on the lungs or heart to boost points.
